You can explain it away as the moon is made of many moon blocks in a spherical order many people make spherical objects out of minecraft blocks.

Well brilliant everyone. Now we didn't help Notch one bit at all. We just showed him that any design decisions he makes will be met with divided opinions and in some cases... panic.

If Sun and Moon are not Square it's not Minecraft!

First of all, he's making it round because he wants to add moon phases, which could mean varying mob difficulty depending on the phase.

And I'm sure you will be able to change it with a texture pack anyway.

All the comments from people supporting squares sound like they have aspergers.

The idea of an option is certainly fine, but even the round one looks as though it's made of blocks. Not everything in minecraft has to be a perfect square, especially something so far away. Think of all the people who make "spheres" in the game using the blocks.

How about YOU Squarefags use a texture pack, hmmm? Notch decided it wants to be round, so now YOU are on the wrong side of the Mexican border, ####ers.

If you have graphical limitations you can get away with it if you're consistant so that it becomes a style. A round sun would fit with that design philosophy. However, in the long run I can imagine that Minecraft won't always stay so cubical as the game becomes bigger and more advanced over the years. Thus the style would adjust over time. But that time is not today.
