Report Abuse First of all, he's making it round because he wants to add moon phases, which could mean varying mob difficulty depending on the phase. And I'm sure you will be able to change it with a texture pack anyway.

Not everything in minecraft has to be a perfect square, especially something so far away. Think of all the people who make "spheres" in the game using the blocks. circles!?! in minecraft b-but that defies everything known about minecraftia! EVERYTHING is square even the wolves! even my underwear! BEGONE FOUL CIRCLES! AND CAST YOUR EVILNESS UPON ANOTHER DIMENSION! If you have graphical limitations you can get away with it if you're consistant so that it becomes a style. A round sun would fit with that design philosophy. However, in the long run I can imagine that Minecraft won't always stay so cubical as the game becomes bigger and more advanced over the years. Thus the style would adjust over time. But that time is not today.
