Wait, why the #### does it matter?
I'm a texture pack artist, I can make it square myself.

Peoples arguments for square are completely wrong? There has always been an element of "round" in minecraft? The moon will be made up of square pixels. Just like the rounded mountains that are rendered. People make spheres in minecraft all the time. Imagine is every mountain you came across was a solid square. What a pile of dick? There has always been a "rounded square element" to minecraft. What difference will the moon make? Get over it. Round looks awesome, phases look awesome. I don't see a valid argument.

We can't put multiple round moon phases in the current square moon texture. We CAN put all square moons in 'round moon' textures.

So make them round!

It doesn't matter because I'm going to use a custom texture pack anyway!

Round!

I think it makes sense, if it was comprised of smaller blocks like everything else in Minecraft!

And therefore it would start to look round at that kind of distance...

ROUND moon and sun is made of multiple squares. That's why round moon/sun looks pretty awesome and fits in the game perfectly!!! VOTE ROUND

Square phases are definitely possible. I created a rough version of what they could look like. Obviously the art could be improved and look just as good as the round phases. http://imgur.com/d6TIm
