In alphabetic order:
a) Avila, b) Bhargava, c) one of the following, with decreasing likelihood: Hairer or Lurie or Brendle or Helfgott or Cszornei, d) Mirzakhani

    Salamu alaikum Farid.
    List: Avila, Bhargava, Hairer, Mirzakhani

The only argument against this choice may be that Avila and Mirzakhani may be viewed as working in the same broad field. If so, then they would replace one of them, possible by Lurie. It would come down to balancing regional and topical distribution. The Boston (USA) interest group would push for Lurie, while Berkeley-Brazil alliance would push for Avila, whose case is well established and uncontested. The reason I beleive that Hairer is a strong possibility is that his area has never been given a Fields medal, and he has developed both new methods and a big new Theorem.

Thank you Kim Dohyun for the link to the ICM in Seoul. This is a good year for Korean mathematics. Will there be colleagues from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in attendance ? I remember two mathematics PhD students from the DPRK in Moscow 1990/91, which had to return home all of a sudden. Never heard of them again. It is my hope that mathematicians visiting the peninsula at the occasion of the Congress would contribute to a peaceful future for both Koreas by good example. After all, mathematics is a force of peace !

The committee will balance geographic [Europe (led by France), USA (led by Cambridge MA), developing countries (led by very influential Brazil)] as well as topical as well as gender [highest profiles are Mirkhazani, Morel and Cszornei] distribution of the medalists. The most likely medalists are : Avila, Bhargava, Mirkhazani, Lurie or Helfgott.

Interesting comment. Looking at the list of purported candidates in the poll, it would appear that political considerations such as you mention will come to the fore. The accomplishments of people in this group are just too diverse to be ordered or compared !
