While I have no real objection to the mandriva name it would not be my first choice. I favour Mandrake despite the legal difficulties that would potentially entail. Never have understood how a comic book character could commadeer the name of a natural herb/plant. probably a lost cause and unless some foolish sound is chosen no matter.

Only use the name Mandriva. Otherwise no one will know if this is a new fork like Mageia, PCLinuxOS or Rosa.

I don't see any structure for the Mandriva User Groups, just individuals give their reactions.
Using this Poll; I (personally) like the cozy name 'Mandy'

Yes, just use 'Mandriva'. From what I can tell, this will be a collaborative effort with the company, Mandriva. The naming should be as uncomplicated as possible. No negative association with Mandriva, the name, will be dispelled with the smokescreen of some different way to call it. Keep it simple and move forward, please.

As long as Mandriva SA allow the name to be used it should stay, if not then at least reference it as "MCE Linux" (Mandriva community edition).

Alternatively, something that doesn't have Mandriva in it, but that is similar enough for everyone to make the connection, much like the Mandrake-Mandriva transition back in its time.

I think it really should have the name in it - it's a well established brand name that - while a little damaged lately - still enjoys a great reputation overall.
Starting with a new name will not get people (and in particular the press) to make the connection, and will guarantee failure.
People are simply not interested in "yet another new Linux distro of the day".
(Understandable, since most distros appearing out of nowhere these days just happen to be another crappy Ubuntu respin).
