I would like to see more books and course which use the Enneagram personality system to devolp characters, their dialogues and interactions. I find it a straight-foward system of undestanding personality types in a easy manner. I've read many good book on the Enneagram and I can say I master it, yet when it comes to applying it to novels there are only a few books which address the issue. Adapting the Enneagram to novel writing will require an expert novelist who can discern how to implement it. Understanding the Enneagram is not enough to use it for character creations, therefore I hope that in the future more writers books will include it as a sytem of reference. I've bought a software for generating characters with the Enneagram, it's ok but it does not really go beyond the common use of the Enneagram for self-discovery. From Holly Lisle in reply to Tristano on August 12, 2009 at 2:01 pm. I don't use Enneagrams, so won't be doing any courses on them. In general, I dislike any systems that make it easy to create stereotypes rather than real people---my experiences with enneagrams is that it creates a crutch for writers, rather than pushing them to think their way through their characters as individuals. From ValMarie on July 1, 2009 at 2:17 pm. I'm all about the description ones; I have such a hard time incorporating it into my writing in a natural way that adds to the plot. I write predominantly women's fiction set in the "real" word and many times I struggle with how to make my setting a unique and integral part of the story. So many times my scenes read like they could have taken place anywhere. From Evelyn on June 27, 2009 at 12:10 pm. I believe a lot of writers get caught up in using too many adverbs and become blind to the sameness which can exist in this close society. From ekcarmel on June 26, 2009 at 6:45 am. I also vote for Description: Time, Place, and Person. From sjeanne on June 25, 2009 at 10:48 pm. A note on the villains - mine are always so very background, bodiless looming presences. Which isn't so good. Or at least not ALL the time. From melissah on June 25, 2009 at 9:58 pm. Vote-plus-plus for Master Writing Presentation. My biggest worry is that my own heartbreaking work of staggering genius (thanks, Eggers) will be overlooked because an agent or editor will be disgusted and turned off by my initial contact. From jacreech on June 25, 2009 at 12:30 pm. I also vote for #64 Description: Time, Place. Thanks Holly! From Kellie on June 25, 2009 at 12:06 pm. I would have voted for Description: Time, Place, and Person too. From Katie on June 25, 2009 at 8:30 am. Oh no! The one that I need the most is unavailable for voting! I need Description: Time, Place, and Person. I'm always self conscious about putting something in without some basis of reality (and I'm not talking about trying necessarily to have Magic based in reality, just the situations and other such things) but I'm still young and I spend so much time reading that I barely have any reality to base anything on! I'd really appreciate it if you made this one. Thanks! Page: 1 2 3 4
