I guess you haven't been paying much attention to what is really happening in our courts. The hard and successful work that is done everyday by our Assistant DA's goes unnoticed because the media doesn't see a story in the 95% of cases that are successful or those times when a prosecutor can actually persuade a judge to impose a substantial prison sentence, only those cases where someone's unhappy (often because they expect something that is impossible under our laws) or the media thinks they can manufacture a story, facts be damned. Even the police officers who submit cases often fail to recognize the good results on most cases, and sometimes conclude that nothing's been done when that's 100% wrong, they just didn't check up to find out the real result. The worst thing that can be said about most cases is that our prosecutors don't or can't take the time to brag about their success stories since they are moving onto the next demanding case.
The way everyone loves to blame the prosecutors anytime things don't turn out the way they want it to makes you wonder why anyone steps forward to take on this thankless and underpaid profession. Thank goodness we have some wonderful people who still believe they can make a difference, and make the personal sacrifices necessary to perform this essential job.
