From lw on June 24, 2009 at 3:48 pm. IP Logged, 65.98.140.x Report Abuse I have never taken a writing class that teaches you from beginning to end what to do. I have taken classes on various parts of writing, but I have not found class that teaches putting all the parts together. So I'm hoping you have such a class. I chose pacing and plotting because I thought it might help me to learn how to move the story along. lw From Sandra on June 24, 2009 at 3:27 pm. IP Logged, 71.228.91.x Report Abuse I know what I want and where I am going. However, it seems like when my characters open their mouths then the action is diminished. IP Logged, 205.175.113.x Report Abuse My story is like an unstrung necklace: I have all the scenes that tell the main events of the story but don't know how to do the transitions. IP Logged, 97.123.91.x Report Abuse I chose "Doing the Work" as in addition to motivation, ideas on how to structure a day around writing and how to set up a proper work area are always welcome. Also, I would love it if this section touched on research techniques and setting goals. From Bren on June 24, 2009 at 3:13 pm. IP Logged, 99.177.189.x Report Abuse Getting the writing done was my choice. I always find excuses not to when it comes down to it, which is strange. I set aside time each week for exclusive writing. I look forward to those times with great anticipation, jotting down ideas, thinking about my story, etc. When it comes time for me to sit down and do it, I draw a blank and my mind wanders, fogs out or I just suddenly get sleepy for no reason. I wonder if I'm putting too much pressure on myself? From Kari Wolfe on June 24, 2009 at 2:58 pm. IP Logged, 174.22.128.x Report Abuse I picked pacing and plot because it's the middles that I need help on the most. Plus the types of novels I want to write really depend on the author's ability to pace the novel well - horror.

IP Logged, 99.199.67.x Report Abuse I think that YES, actually finding time and motivation is a huge barrier for many writers, but do we really need more "how to's" on this subject? There's plenty of material out there to encourage writers. I would rather see more QUALITY material on the actual craft of writing, which I'm sure Holly will deliver. From Mary Ann Hunter on June 24, 2009 at 2:22 pm. IP Logged, 64.128.48.x Report Abuse I have all of the time in the world to write and I write a lot. My problem is not getting started. I do outlines, character sketches, plot outlines and notes galore...but when I get to the middle I get --- I dont know, something happens and suddenly I NEED to start a new story, a new idea hits me over the head like a hammer. I have never finished any of the 7 writing projects I have started. I must learn how to finish a first draft. I dont get bored with the current story, I guess I feel like the new idea cannot wait. Help! Am I afraid to finish a writing project? What's wrong with me as a writer? Thanks for listening. From Jeff Newcomb on June 24, 2009 at 2:06 pm. IP Logged, 71.48.42.x Report Abuse I selfishly chose "pacing and plot" because, like some of the other commom taters above, I have this crazy idea that I already know "how" to write a good story, I just need help stringing it along. The unpublished, unrecognized, under-appreciated writer in me knows I need at least a week on each subject, if not more, if I ever want my dreams to come true. However, my ego simply begs to be turned loose... sigh... Page: 1 2 3 4 5 Showing comments 31-40 of 47. Add a Comment
