I voted on Doing the Work, but I also wanted to vote on Writing as a Career. Writing and odd creative photography projects are my first love, but I seem to let everything else take priority over writing time for all the normal excuses like "its not bringing income (yet)" "its a dream and not practical" etc.

I'm finding that I can write dialogue and move a plot along, but I'm lacking on adequate descriptions. Plus, not knowing how much descriptions of scenes, people, etc. to include. I don't want to tell and not show, but I need to tell more.

I seem to have too many dramatic scenes. Probably because they are more fun to write. I need to learn the fine art of pacing so my reader is not overwhelmed by emotion.

I have the same problem as Melissa. I love writing, I really do, just as i love drawing. When I am typing words on a page they just seem to flow and I often feel more alive, almost electric. However, I always seem to be making up excuses not to write, like someone makes excuses not to go on vacation or splurge on that tempting slice of cake. I am at a loss as to why I do this to myself, and it would be wonderful to discover how to bypass this dilemma. Thank you so much Holly for helping us.

Also Dialogue, and showing a story rather than telling it. This, along with Plotting and Planning, are my flaws so far in writing.

I have four working titles already, and each story is not fully understood in my head all because of my poor planning. Sometimes, I just can't grasp what I see in my head - in order to toss it to the page well enough to allow the flow of the story to reach the end I seek.

I also voted for Doing the Work, but for a weird reason. I do do the work when I have a real, imposed deadline (ie The project is being published and other people are truly counting on me to get it done). But if I'm doing a project on my own or for a general submission, I just can't seem to keep it going - I lose steam quickly.

Knowing that though characterization, dialogue, etc are important, I believe learning to work through writer's block is a huge key to success in writing.

I overplan. I get everything just so including my list of scenes and what happens in them. Then, I guess my Muse says it's written so I stop. At this rate I'll never get published even if I try to do it myself.

I can't think of any obstacles for my characters, even though I know the beginning and ending.
I voted for Dialogue and Plot because besides plotting, I have trouble writing informative dialogue.

I just can't seem to find the will to sit down and write. It's as simple as that. I would really love some way to slowly train myself into the habit of writing every day.
