Freedom, authenticity, asynchronous development, the ability to follow our own biorhythms, travel whenever we want to as long as we want to. We really enjoy spending time together and learning together. I am so very grateful for the opportunities we have. We are the lucky ones! From Renee on December 4, 2007 at 8:51 am. IP Logged, 66.74.24.x Report Abuse We spend a lot of the year traveling and/or pursuing extracurricular interests. Homeschooling gives us a flexible time schedule to follow our passions. I would not trade the chance I have to watch my children turn into wonderful, intelligent, responsible, loving, wise human beings for anything in the world. It is truly priceless to have this time with my children! From Terri on December 4, 2007 at 1:56 am. IP Logged, 71.116.75.x Report Abuse Our original reason for homeschooling was so we could travel/vacation on our schedule instead of the school schedule. Our reasons have blossomed since we started and we hear about new reasons almost weekly in the news. From Laura Chapman on December 4, 2007 at 1:29 am. IP Logged, 64.113.110.x Report Abuse Our kids are special needs and the district had no programs that fit my kids' needs. One of my kids is also gifted and they could not accomodate her abilities. I was not going to subject them to a substandard education when they kids could thrive at home, learning more than they ever would in four square walls. IP Logged, 75.36.138.x Report Abuse Other: Additionally we homeschool because school fosters certain antisocial behaviors that we wish to avoid, such as materialism, apathy toward learning, desensitization to violence, sensitization to commercial messages, and others. Also school provides inadequate or warped interpersonal relationships for children with the adults who are teaching them; this in turn damages parental attachment and ultimately can result in peer attachment replacing parent attachment as the primary learning force in a young adult -- to their detriment. That is also the perfect response to give to someone who is always bringing up the "socialization" issue. ALso, remember how many times we were told in school, "You're not here to socialize!"
