More freedom and fluidity in education, more emphasis on learning as a pleasure, more room for unstructured play, less obsession with making every second count, less pressure to mimic adult mores." From In Praise of Slowness
This best sums up the reasons I chose to homeschool... and of course there is also a list of specific reasons that I could add as well.

IP Logged, 70.111.247.x Report Abuse We homeschool so our children can be themselves, and not evaluated by aset of standards that are useless and serve no one. I want my children to do things at their own pace, enjoying learning, and not worrying they are behind, or feeling like they can drift because they are ahead. I want them to not sit and read books under their desk at school because they are bored in class, or watch the clock so they can leave a class with a teacher who bores them or hates them or worse-ignores them. I want their spirits to remain unscathed from the sometimes brutal mob mentality of peer led societies, and have always one foot in a 'real" world, where they can see all types of people can succeed and be happy, and looks don't have all that much to do with it! IP Logged, 68.5.12.x Report Abuse In terms of number 2 about family being more close with homeschooling I would say no; however my daughter has much more respect. Also in terms of moral or religious instruction our situation would be more like not having so much contradictions between our society's morals and the life inside of a middle school. My daughter now has new real happy friends! From Dawn on January 3, 2008 at 4:35 pm. IP Logged, 69.1.45.x Report Abuse I love the flexibility of home schooling. I also love that I know what my kids are doing, what they might need help with, and what their interests are. Home school is so cool. From Deborah S. Hembach on December 14, 2007 at 3:11 pm. IP Logged, 71.102.158.x Report Abuse We are in the military and we move often. Homeschooling provides continuity and stability. I did not homeschool my oldest and though she did alright I know her experience could have been so much better at home. From Lis on December 9, 2007 at 6:58 pm. I would add that a main reason we home school is because it is a better social environment for our kids. From Beth on December 7, 2007 at 8:24 am. IP Logged, 68.220.254.x Report Abuse We have been unschooling since the kids' birth. It is the perfect fit for us. I knew we would be homeschooling before they were born. As the daughter of a veteran public school teacher and a product of the public school system myself, I knew full well the limitations of a government-run system. It DOES NOT remotely serve the best interest of children. Public school's purpose is to create workers -drones - sheep. I did not want my children turned into sheep!!!!!! IP Logged, 71.106.12.x Report Abuse yay! some real, honest answers to the "why homeschool" question! another reason: 30 plus kids to one teacher makes for one-way learning and lotsa crowd control. not to mention the testing, testing, testing! i want my children to have freedom to be themselves, learning through exploration. plus, i enjoy: reading/baking/walking/biking/experimenting/ traveling/adventuring with them everyday!!!
