We homeschool for many reasons, many of which were on the list. However travel is one of the highest on my list. There is no better way to learn how much we are all alike and learn to value all people equally than to share time with them in their own culture. And there is no better way to show all the wonderful ways we are different. Not to mention how much gratitude we can learn while standing over a hole in a concrete floor with a cold water tap next to us wishing we could just sit on that nice comfy toilet with the soft toilet paper we have back home. This, I believe, is the best way to create a global village with responsible citizens of the future- to "socialize" if you will. I'm sure it is hardly necessary to say now how I feel about the limited, discriminatory, biased slice of colonial-centered history served up in public school. The world at large is a much better classroom with an infinite curriculum. Plus, I just love being with these wonderful people I am lucky enough to call my children.
