Posted by hagfish 1 minute ago. Having a full moon rise at sunset makes sense. Having a first/last quarter moon rise at sunset is just creepy. Moon phases would have to rise/set at the appropriate time of day, which would mean new moon nights could be very dark. Might introduce new game elements (more mobs at new moon) but overall, I quite like having a full (square) moon every night.
