From Warren Shaw on May 5, 2008 at 10:15 pm. IP Logged, 207.114.159.x Report Abuse There are many reasons for PG and E NOT to build this project in the foothills: environmental, anthropological, health and simple fairness among them. There appear to be only two reasons for their apparent first choice of the foothill location: their own convenience and profit. From Jay Hinshaw on May 5, 2008 at 7:34 pm. IP Logged, 206.169.218.x Report Abuse PGandE is dishonest in its dealings with the property owners in the foothills. I believe they are withholding information on purpose to deny property owners the ability to question details of the C3ET project and suggest alternative routes and sites for sub-stations. PGE has been more than vague in their correspondence and will not release the list(s) of some 1000 plus properties in their way! Just say NO to PGandE INVASION. From Ed on April 29, 2008 at 10:32 am. IP Logged, 71.154.237.x Report Abuse Without arguing the merits of either of the previous comments I have a question. In the past large projects like this have really notserved the need/demand of the local area. they have been housed in smaller less populated areas with the results being sent to large metro areas like LA or San Francisco. Does anyone know if that is what is happening here? From Chip Ashley in reply to Ed on April 30, 2008 at 8:57 am. IP Logged, 209.107.147.x Report Abuse Yes, Ed, that is what is happening here. PGandE's favorite is the eastern route through the Sierra foothills from south of Porterville, CA to Fresno County, where it will end at a massive substation in the foothills and tie into the Helms-Gregg 230kV line. The foothill areas all along the line are relatively unpopulated. The stated purpose of the project is to supply additional juice to the growing northern San Joaquin Valley (which has no business growing any more due to lack of water and poor air quality) and the Helms Project, a pump-storage facility which has had many problems. In many ways, the project is a poster child for the lack of overall and long-term planning typical of capitalist economies. (I don't have anything against capitalism per se except that it requires continued, often unplanned growth that uses up limited space and resources.) It is a short-term plan (I hesitate to use the word "solution" because the plan will create more problems than it will solve) with devastating long-term implications for the Sierra foothills.
From Missy on April 23, 2008 at 11:24 pm. IP Logged, 207.114.159.x Report Abuse I am not for or against this project at this time. I do live in the area but will not be directly affected by the project. My question is, if it doesn't go here, where will it go? It is always going to be in somebody's backyard. So where is acceptable??? From Chip Ashley in reply to Missy on April 24, 2008 at 10:53 am. IP Logged, 209.107.147.x Report Abuse It is not a nimby issue. It is an issue of protecting the sensitive ecosystems of the Sierra foothills. I speak only for myself on this point, but if it were merely an issue of my backyard and/or money, I would not fight the plan. Also, you imply that the project is about meeting a need. It is not about need nearly as much as it is about demand, which is much more about convenience and waste than about need. If we only used the electricity we need, this project would be completely unnecessary.
From Chip Ashley on April 15, 2008 at 11:09 am. IP Logged, 209.107.147.x Report Abuse While Pacific Gas and Electric says the Central California Clean Energy Transmission Project is "green," the project is nevertheless environmentally destructive. It will devaste one of the most scenic foothill valleys in California if the 40-50 acre E2 Substation is built in Watts Valley. Neither of the alternate locations at Humphreys Station or Big Dry Creek is acceptable either. Moreover, the C3ET project is already negatively impacting the lives of at least 10,000 people along its proposed alternate routes. Just imagine how it would feel to have your property encumbered by the threat of this project. http://www.savethefoothills.org/ Page: First Page ...2 3 4 5 6 7
