Might depend on whether or not you have a family.

hmmm. Whilst I like the idea of being free to choose holiday exactly when I want, it is also great to have some coordinated days when everything has shut down. I know that causes some ticket price spikes and driving queues to the beach, but it also allows me to totally relax on a bank holiday knowing that there is nobody whatsoever at work.

Bank holidays should only apply to people who work in banks.

Teachers get "school holidays". Healthcare staff and the self-employed don't get any, though the former can go on paid sick leave for half a year or more.

Why do we have bank holidays at all, apart from New Year's Day and Boxing Day, which are there for recovery from Christmas and New Year's Eve?
